boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel

A lightweight peeling gel that delivers gentle exfoliation for deeper, more thorough cleansing results.

What it is formulated to do:

This peel gel acts as a physical peel to remove the outer layer of dead skin, as a chemical peel to penetrate deep into skin for in-depth exfoliation, and as a treatment to firm and brighten for a healthy complexion. It’s triple-activated to get the best results with outer exfoliation and chemical exfoliation deep within pores while a brightening treatment can penetrate deep into skin. It bonds together so you instantly feel outer layer of skin being fully exfoliated. After rinsing, it lets skin appear smoother, softer, and brighter-looking after a single use.

cooks tools

Continuing with my cooking recommendations theme, we move along cooks' tools. With the right implements, instruction, and inspiration, any recipe is possible. Here are a few I'm loving:

I can't say enough good things about All-Clad.  I love when tools are functional and beautiful, and the All-Clad Cook and Serve set is exactly that. The heavy-grade 18/10 stainless steel construction makes for durable function and easy cleaning (dishwasher safe, too!) behind the scenes, while the mirrored finish adds a dash of style and class for the table.  Comes as a set of six that includes a fork, ladle, spoon, slotted spoon, tongs and storage caddy.  For an added bonus: the caddy can be monogrammed.

Silicon spoonulas are the perfect mix of spatulas and spoons. I'm notorious for leaving the spatula in the pan or on hot surfaces, so I'm comforted knowing these brilliant bits are heat-resistant to 600ºF, dishwasher safe, and won't chip or crack. They're super handy and come in a variety of colors and sizes each season. I prefer the wooden handle options, because the silicon portion is removable, but the stainless steel options are nice as well. In my opinion, you can't have enough.

Favored by bartenders and restaurateurs since 1882, Bar Keepers Friend is a premium cleanser and polish makes household surfaces shine like new. They’re the ideal kitchen cleaners-- for countertops, sinks, cooktops, appliances, cookware and more. Working without harmful chlorine bleach, this magical mix removes rust, lime, and hard water stains, as well as tarnish from copper and brass. With a little BKF and a lot of elbow-grease, everything will be sparkling clean. (Side note: BKF works great cleaning the bathtub and shower, too!)

I've sung the praises of the garlic peeler on multiple occasions, and must recommend again. Don't underestimate this peculiar piece - one use and you'll see how easily this floppy tube peels a clove of garlic. Simply insert whole unpeeled cloves, press down firmly, and briskly roll back and forth for a few seconds, until you hear the peel snap. Each week I'll peel and mince 3-4 heads in less than 5 minutes.

This is a definite luxury, and I absolutely love it. Beautiful and practical, this box keeps up to 8 oz. of cooking salt within close reach. Handcrafted by Bérard of richly grained olive wood with an oil finish, it has a swiveling magnetic lid for easy one-handed access. Makes an incredible gift for house warnings, hostesses and thank yous, and anyone who loves to cook or appreciates great spices.

I absolutely love cooking, and might have an arsenal full of goodies. These are just a few of the many I love. What tools do you use in your kitchen?

built to love, built to be loud, built to last

http://www.beoplay.com/products/beoplayearset3#features

I just realized I've had the same headphones for 10 years.  Ten years of travel, ten years of sweaty exercise, ten years of movies and music, and ten years of pure enjoyment.  When I originally purchased them, I knew they weren't cheap, but trusted B&O's sound and engineering quality.  And after a decade, I still stand by their superior craftsmanship and enjoyment.  I don't know if mine are the original model, but the only improvements I would make have already been added to the current version (a microphone and audio controls on the decide).  Other than that - I love them.

Technically, the headphone dimensions are 35 mm x 59 mm x 14 mm, have a weight of 22 g, consist of an electro-dynamic intra concha earphone, have a 1.2 m cord, and have a frequency range of 50 - 20,000 Hz.
Anders Hermansen designed them specifically for maximum comfort as well, leaving each piece maneuverable up or down and side to side.  Headphones include a 2-year warranty and free shipping online at B&O.  US$199.

What headphones do you love?

fashion + function on the road or trail

I am a people watcher.  I'm constantly watching people's interactions, looking at what people are wearing, observing styles and trends, looking for new products and presentations, and generally checking out what's happening.  When I'm out and about, I'm always snapping photos as reminders, making notes of brands or trends to study and research later.  As a businessman, this provides great insight into the competition and often leads to practice improvements and greater efficiency.  As a private shopper, this also leads to incredible entertainment.

http://packs.point65.com/hardshell-packs

In the late 1990s, I kept seeing the coolest backpacks abroad with the funkiest shape.  They looked super durable, lightweight, and generally weatherproof.  Come to find out, these futuristic bags were from a Swedish design firm called Boblbee.  And my first impressions were spot-on; the bags were made of carbon fiber, aluminum, and crazy durable ABS plastics.  Their special shape protects the spine and secures the contents from inclement weather.

http://packs.point65.com/hardshell-packs

A few years later, we ordered one for our Dad for Father's Day.  Our family has always been into biking and outdoor recreation, and it's definitely gotten its use.  From hundreds of miles on bicycles to random city hikes, I definitely recommend the bag.

http://packs.point65.com/hardshell-packs

Other than online, the bags are pretty tricky to find in the United States.  Apparently in 2014 or 2015 they joined forces with another Swedish company called Point 65. If you're looking for a rugged bag that looks cool and feels comfortable, check it out.  I hope to be buying one of my own, soon.

comfort food

If you haven't yet noticed - I'm super nostalgic. I'm not one of those people who hoards every single item and refuses to throw anything away.  I'm more of a selective hoarder, instead keeping "edited collections" instead of "piles of junk."  I may happen to have boxes of kitchen tools, an overabundance of clothing options, and enough greeting cards and skincare to start my own Hallmark and Sephora.  What can I say?  I like options and to be prepared.

I don't know if "obsessive" is the right term to describing my cooking, but it's much more than a love affair.  Food was always been much more than sustenance - it's been a centerpiece of my life.  From cooking with family and friends, to food shopping, farming and gardening, and managing upscale cooking stores, food is always the focus.

Close your eyes for a moment and think about your favorite holiday.  You may recall a general feeling, a few special memories.  If you were to cook something from that holiday, you'd instantly be transported back in time to the exact places and feelings you experienced.  This is one of the many joys I get from cooking every day - the opportunity to relive great memories and create new ones, as well!

Here are a few kitchen goodies I'm loving:

garlic peeler
I absolutely love garlic.  There aren't many recipes I make that don't have at least a clove or two (or ten!).  Speed up your prep time with this handy plastic tube.  Break apart the head of garlic, place a clove inside the tube, firmly pressing and rolling.  The skin instantly falls off, revealing the "naked" clove.  I can peel a few heads of garlic in just a couple minutes. And to save even more time when cooking, each week I'll prepare both minced and sliced garlic and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.  The garlic peeler rinses very easily and is also dishwasher safe.  US$9 at Williams-Sonoma.

Splatter Screen

This All-Clad splatter screen is a constant in my kitchen.  In short, it's super durable, dishwasher safe, and makes cooking both safer and much cleaner.  It's available in two different sizes, and I chose the larger version, which fits on almost all of my pans and ovens.  Anytime I'm searing, sauteing, braising, or cooking something on higher heats, I use the splatter screen.  From bacon to beef roast and sauces to soups, this kitchen essential prevents painful splatters and pesky messes.  (Side note: a few months ago I was trying out a new recipe for bourbon cheesecake ice cream and needed a fine sieve - a tool I surprisingly don't have.   But with a large mixing bowl, a silicon spatula, and my trusty splatter screen, all was well!)  About US$60 at Williams-Sonoma.

Staub @ Sur La Table

I absolutely love cooking in fabulous French cookware.  In my opinion, Staub's range is the best.  Their enamel-coated cast iron handles heat to 500ºF and is the high-tech version of traditional cast iron.  The interior of all Staub pots are enameled with a matte black finish, which allows for improved resistence to thermal shocks and scratching, making care easier and keeping maximum beauty.  The enamel also has anti-adhesive properties and requires no seasoning before first use, and is incredibly safe - made free of Cadmium, lead, PFOA, and PTFE. Best of all Staub makes for juicier, more succulent food - their lids are covered with little nubs, literally self-braising while cooking.  Staub is made in France, has a lifetime warranty, and compatible with gas, electric, and induction cooking devices.  (Side note: Staub is technically dishwasher safe, but I've always hand washed with Barkeeper's friend and a scrub brush.)  US$319,95 at Sur La Table.

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/shun-premier-santoku-knife?ID=742614&CategoryID=3865#fn=ppp%3D180%26spp%3D1%26sp%3D1%26rid%3D108%26spc%3D3%26cm_kws%3Dshun%20santoku%20knives%26cm_kws_ac%3Dshun+s%26pn%3D1

My favorite knife is all is the Santoku, Japanese for three virtues" or "three uses".  Its blade is typically between 13 and 20 centimetres (5.1 and 7.9 in) long, and has a flat edge and a sheepsfoot blade that curves in an angle approaching 60 degrees at the point. The top of the Santoku's handle is in line with the top of the blade. The word refers to the three cutting tasks which the knife performs well: slicing, chopping, and mincing. The Santoku's blade and handle are designed to work in harmony by matching the blade's width and weight to the those of the tang and handle.

In short: other than peeling produce or slicing breads, I'm constantly using a Santoku.  My favorite is from a brand called Shun.  Knives must be comfortable in your hand, fitting and weighing perfectly.  When shopping for a new knife, be sure to hold as many as possible to the best fit.  US$225 at Bloomingdale's

These are just a few of my everyday essentials.  What are some of your go-to goodies that you can't cook without?

farm fresh faces

I love mission based retail: brands, companies, stores, and designers, who all have a special purpose and motivation behind their business.  I don't just mean having a mission statement; there has to be a greater cause.  For example, (product) RED is a movement to provide really cool products that are no more expensive than the regular versions, but a portion of the proceeds supports AIDS research and provides lifesaving medicine and treatment to pregnant women with HIV and their young children.  Or the Navy Exchange - a semi-governmental agency that sells quality goods and services to active duty, retired, family members, and Department of Defense civilians at a more affordable price, and ultimately donate a large portion of the proceeds to the morale, welfare, and recreation at military installations worldwide.

Now, imagine a company going "above and beyond" a standard mission and addressing multiple needs simultaneously.  Imagine a company that employed local, small farmers to produce ingredients naturally, with as minimal negative impact on the environment as possible.  Now also prioritize hiring young people, who traditionally avoid the agricultural and farming industries for work.  And then sprinkle in the fact that those fresh, locally farmed ingredients are transported just two hours to the laboratories, where they're cold pressed for maximum efficacy and strength (much like the farm-to-table restaurant movements).  All these incredible aspects only begin to scratch the surface of the ethos at Farmacy Beauty.

Farm fresh ingredients + scientific engineering and formulation = gorgeous skin naturally.  Skincare doesn't have to be fussy, full of fillers and lackluster ingredients, and definitely isn't just for women.  Here are some Farmacy Beauty products I'm loving:

Sleep Tight

Sleep tight!  Literally.  Reinforcing the skin’s natural moisture content, this balm aids firmness and tone while helping to restore elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The texture is super lightweight, which I really appreciate in the warmer weather.   I rubbed a pea-sized amount on the palms of my hands to "warm up" the product, turning the gel into a luxurious oil-like consistency, which quickly melted onto my face, neck, and left just enough to treat my hands as well.  Farmacy Beauty's star ingredient is Echinacea GreenEnvy, a unique patent-protected variant of Echinacea Purpurea.  GreenEnvy contains the highest known concentration of the phytochemical Cichoric Acid, a potent natural antioxidant which helps protect and firm the skin by inhibiting the enzymes that break down collagen.  Cichoric Acid is more than just a powerful anti-aging booster - it also normalizes the skin pigmentation process to promote a more evenly toned, smoother complexion.  In short, Sleep Tight packs a powerful punch with vegetable-derived “Retinoid-like” ingredients to help prevent early wrinkles, smooth deep wrinkles, improve skin radiance and texture while restoring firmness.

A New Day has come!
It would be so easy to recommend a cleanser, exfoliant, and toner.  Or you could put your best face forward with New Day.  If you're in a hurry in the mornings, travel frequently and have limited space in your cosmetics bag, dopp kit, or gym bag, or are on a budget, this is definitely for you.  This powdered product is a three-in-one, gently cleaning the skin, sloughing away dead skin cells and pesky pore-clogging debris, then clarifies and tones, leaving skin silky smooth and radiant.

I tried this out in the shower and can't say enough good things. I poured about a quarter sized amount into the palm of my hand and mixed a few drops of water into a frothy paste.  I then massaged it all over my face, neck, and hands, allowing it to sit for a few minutes (while I conditioned my hair), and rinsed clean.

Natural cranberry seeds and rice bran powder sweep away dead skin cells and debris and absorb excess oils, while the brand's stellar GreenEnvy protects against anti-oxidants and free radicals.  Plus a natural cocktail of White Willow Bark, Carrot, Green Tea and Marshmallow soothe, protect and calm the skin.

I love face masks.  They're quick, effective, and convenient.  If you travel frequently or are always on-the-go, I recommend getting one of the assortment packs.  This way if you have a sudden breakout or unexpected dry patch, you have a quick and easy solution without having to buy an entirely new skincare regime.  During the summer months, you're more likely to have increased sun exposure as well - so a trip to the "farmacy" may be just what the doctor (or farmer!) ordered.  Natural coconut gel provides natural moisture to help skin look fresher and more radiant.  Kale extract offers a complex blend of minerals, antioxidants, vitamins and amino acids that helps re-balance vulnerable, stressed skin. Vitamin A strengthens the skin while active minerals help restore the skin’s ideal oil and water balance.  All in one easy mask.
Lip Bloom lip balm
Smooth, soft, full lips are always en vogue.  And that's exactly what you'll get with this soothing herb-infused balm.  In addition to the anti-aging GreenEnvy, Caster Seed Oil provides a plant-based protective film that helps preserve natural hydration levels, while Sunflower Seed Oil helps maintain the skin’s barrier function with high levels of emollients derived from natural essential fatty acids.  And the best part - it's not glossy, so it's perfect for men and women.

With Farmacy Beauty, you don't just have to eat your fruits and vegetables - you can wear them, too!

a few faves

All of my favorite things in life start with the same letter: faith, family, fashion, food, friends, fun.  Everything revolves around these categories, and are always a priority in life.  They fuel me, bring encouragement and entertainment, keep me grounded and guided, and supported and safe.

A few things I'm loving lately:

I absolutely love cooking.  Whether I'm in the kitchen, shopping for food, eating at a restaurant, gardening, or simply exploring new places, I can't stop thinking about cooking.  I love everything about cooking - especially the conversations in kitchens, the memories made, and the entire experience.  I've had the true pleasure of cooking with a myriad of fabulous people, and in a simple way, cook to honor those I love.

I'm really loving this new white collection from Staub.  It's made from enamel coated cast iron with layers of quartz, so you get incredible heat conductivity, durability, and super easy cleanup.  Not to mention, it's beyond beautiful, made in France, has a self-braising lid, is dishwasher safe, and can stand heat up to 500°F/260°C.

generation next

One of the hardest aspects of any company, particularly in the retail segment, is establishing and maintaining a strong client base while still growing your non-traditional demographics.  Many brands have tried expanding their reach, only to short-lived success.  Abercrombie & Fitch expanded to a younger demographic with their surf inspired Hollister & Co., but their attempt at wooing a more refined, mature audience resulted in their Ruehl No. 925 surviving just a few years.  American Eagle Outfitters' more sophisticated Martin + Osa unfortunately saw the same demise.   Personally, I was really sad when both of these stores closed, as their products were spot-on with fit, fabric, and price point.

To reach a broader demographic successfully, brands must have a strong awareness and identity - customers should automatically associate their brand name with quality, value, and trust.  The products must stand on their own, without overly gimmicky marketing or tacky packaging.  The same codes and hallmarks of the brand must be evident in the "new" product lines.

Two really strong, successful examples of companies expanding their reach are Target's capsule collections and Estee Lauder's new "The Estee Edit" campaign.

For the last several years, discount retailer Target has created capsule collections with luxury designers and fashion houses to viral success.  Target's shoppers are known for favoring clean lines, fresh perspectives, and quality products at an affordable price.  They're typically willing to buy a new cleaning product, as long as it smells nice or comes in cute packaging, and get weak in the knees for a "deal" on something you might not have been looking for, but would love to have.  Their client base is fashionable and trendy, well traveled and more globally aware, might own a few luxury pieces, and appreciate living a more beautiful, simple life.  So it's no surprise that designers like Alexander McQueen, Lilly Pulitzer, Missoni, Liberty of London,  and Marimekko.  These pocket collections often feature iconic prints or details indicative of the famous designs, only mass produced or made in a significantly more affordable manner.  The marketing is always co-branded, featuring a flash of the famous red bulls eye and elements so obvious to the featured design house.  And the second these products are released in-store and online, they immediately sell out.  Target makes money, brands extend their awareness, and customers get a taste of the luxe life they've only dreamed of or drooled over.  It's the ultimate "gateway drug" for luxury fashion houses to the mass market and middle America.

Another great example is cosmetics and skincare giant Estee Lauder and Sephora.  When you think of Estee Lauder, you typically think of older women like your Grandmother who are focused on anti-aging skincare and the same lipstick shade they've worn since 1962.  Over the last few years, Lauder has really ramped up their game and extended their reach to a much younger demographic, hiring the likes of Kendall Jenner as a spokeswoman and featured cover girl.  Impressively, they've continued to focus on what they're known for - bringing revolutionary skincare and quality cosmetics to the marketplace, only with a bit of a twist.  Capitalizing on social media and technology, they've recently launched "The Estee Edit", a pocket collection of established skincare and beauty products mixed with a few new products and packaging for taking the perfect "selfie".  From makeup removers, cleansers, and wipes, to pore minimizing sticks and flash photo powders, to skin illuminating creams and bronzers and everything in between, the collection focuses on how to have flawless, photo-ready skin and makeup.

Technology is always associated with youth.  The latest and greatest trends could be lost on an older generation if they seemed cheap, tacky, or not well executed.  But the power and image associated with Estee Lauder are underlying throughout all of these pieces.  And for a brand that's traditionally focused on anti-aging and looking your best, what could be more perfect than being photo-ready at a moment's notice?  It's the ultimate injection of youthfulness for the beauty brand.

Rule Breaker. Risk Taker. Beauty Boss. No one owned it quite like Estée Lauder. She built a beauty empire practicing what she preached: “Beauty is an Attitude.” In this spirit, we bring you the Estée Edit. Beauty attitudes—inspired by Estée and Guest Editors—created by you. From instantly gorgeous skin to covetable color trends. Mix it. Match it. Blend with abandon. You make the rules. This is a declaration of who you are and who you make yourself up to be. What’s your attitude? Wear it. Share it. Own it. #beautyattitudes

Nordic Style, right on Target

I love when brands collide.  Montauk smashed into the tennis courts of Paris when  J. Crew paired up with Lacoste, offering the brand's iconic polo shirts with original crocodile logo, tennis tails, and slim fit. Discount retailer Target has fostered many luxury capsule collections, from Alexander McQueen to Missoni.  And on 17 April, the brand launches yet another cult like collection by famed Finnish design house Marimekko

http://www.target.com/c/marimekko-brand-shop/-/N-4vq64#?lnk=snav_rd_marimekko

More than 200 pieces will feature the bright and bold prints the House is known for, many of which are under US$50. From bicycles to bikinis, gardening tools to the girlies tunics, there's something for everyone.

Simple and spirited, Marimekko infuses its authentic Nordic sensibility and iconic prints into a signature collection of fashion and home pieces. Splashed with color, pattern and purpose, Marimekko is a true hallmark of Finnish art and design that never goes out of style. We have Marimekko artist, Maija Isola to thank for these prints and patterns.

over the outlet

Retail confession: I have a love/hate relationship with outlets.  Who doesn't love a bargain, though?  And many times, a brand's outlet store is your "last chance" to buy that one piece from last season that you passed up and simply can't get out of your head.  Other than any price savings or last-ditch-effort to procure something you didn't buy and you've been kicking yourself for months over, the hate comes flooding down.  Outlets are typically staffed with associates who lack product knowledge and brand heritage, let alone any initiative to actually help you find something, keep the store tidy and organized, or prevent the place from mimicking more of a garage sale and less of an actual place of business.
https://factory.jcrew.com/help/mercantile.jsp
With that being said, I'm pleasantly surprised with J.Crew's Mercantile concept.  Imagine taking a typical J.Crew store, staffing it with the expected happy-go-lucky and uber trendy/preppy college crowd, merchandising the store beautifully with props from Martha's Vineyard to Montauk - but the surprising twist - all the merchandise is from the "factory outlet", cleverly disguised as the "Mercantile" - and the prices match, to boot!
https://factory.jcrew.com/help/mercantile.jsp
CEO Mickey Drexler is absolutely brilliant.  The economy is slowly allowing a bit of extra spending money, but customers are a little wiser with their money and much more budget conscious, for all spending abilities.  Instead of hoping customers will trek to the outskirts of town on a wild goose chase for a bargain, why not bring a beautiful store to the customers' neighborhoods, construct it just like the full service / full price boutiques they know and love, but supply it with more inexpensive wears, while treating them like their higher-end siblings.
https://factory.jcrew.com/help/mercantile.jsp
I visited my first J.Crew Mercantile in Charlotte.  It was organized, well stocked, staffed with energetic associates eager to assist, and was beautifully merchandised.  I left inspired, excited, and with a few unexpected purchases.

luxury leads the way

One of my favorite aspects of the luxury industry is the innovation.  From new fabrics and construction, to the must-have colors and crazes, creativity is celebrating nowhere more than in the luxury industry.  As a client, part of the allure is exclusivity and nowness, a combination of being both new and cutting edge.  It's the perfect combination of being edgy and edited, excited without being too eccentric.  As a businessman, the hardest part of the industry is being exclusive without being too exclusionary or out of reach.

One of the easiest ways for luxury houses to reach all demographics is through accessories and beauty products. Your budget might not allow for Christian Louboutin's latest heels, but you may indulge yourself with their latest nail polish.  You might not spring for a $30,000 Hermes bag, but a bottle of perfume or cologne might be much more accessible.  From sandals to sunglasses, it's often these entry level categories that often fund the fashion houses, followed by more substantial footwear, ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, and ultimately couture.  The more labor intensive, the more exotic the materials, the more expensive the final cost.

Styles and trends often trickle down from the luxury segment to the mass produced segment.  One trend I've noticed lately is the widespread use of oud.  Dating back to biblical times, the wise men were truly wise, bringing frankincense and myrrh as a gift.  The trend of gifting fragrance continues today.  The most exclusive, expensive ingredient for fragrance is Oud, the heartwood of the Aquilaria trees in southeast Asia.  Oud is particularly prized in the Middle East, known for scenting homes, wardrobes, and clothing.  The ingredient itself is known for being particularly long lasting, very delicate, and very specific in aroma.  Because of this, and the limited quantity produced, the price of raw oud is many times the price of gold. Additionally, the price is only climbing, as the availability of the wild resources of oud are simply disappearing and depleting.  Since 1995, the primary source for oud, Aquilaria malaccenis, has been designated by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora has potentially threatened, although many countries are excluded from the listing.  Just like fine wines and balsamic vinegar, the value and age go hand and hand.  It's warm, earthy, gentle, sometimes smoky, and almost like smelling fresh wind in the desert on a warm summer's night.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/tom-ford-oud-wood-eau-de-parfum/3623561?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort

My favorite fragrances with oud hands down are Tom Ford's private blends.  Mr. Ford describes it himself as rare, exotic, and distinctive.  Just like the fragrances often burned in the temples of Buhtan, this fabulous fragrance contains exotic rose wood and caradmom that give way tot he smoky blend of rare oud wood, sandalwood, and vetiver, and are finished with tonka bean and amber for even more warmth and sensuality.  You'll find other versions featuring Oud + Tobacco and Oud + Fleur as well, along with soaps, beard conditioning oils, shower gels, and moisturizers.  For more details, phone Yvonne at Tom Ford's Chicago Boutique on +1.312-605-5041 or Tonya at Nashville's Tom Ford Beauty inside Nordstrom at +1.615.850.6700.

Oud isn't just a trend for luxury fragrances.  On a recent trip to Target, I even noticed an "oud" like deodorant from very accessible Axe. The brand describes it as "A subtle, woody scent with juicy mandarin, fresh black pepper and sensual vanilla. A premium quality, long-lasting fragrance."  While I seriously doubt the inclusion of actual Oud in the formula, it's very interesting to see such a distinct fragrance in a mass produced environment.

What other trends and concepts are you loving that transcend demographics and price points?

a-peel-ing skincare

http://shop.nordstrom.com/sr?origin=keywordsearch&contextualcategoryid=0&keyword=dr.+dennis+gross+skincare

It's no secret, I love skincare.  Maybe it's because my dear Mother had skin cancer for most of my life, and we grew up knowing how to care for our skin, from face washes and exfoliants to the ever important sun screens.  It's a daily ritual I've come to love, and really enjoy learning about new ingredients, trendy treatments, and cutting-edge technology in the industry.

At some point, we've all been responsible for cleaning the kitchen or bathroom floors.  One typically follows these steps:

-- remove as many objects as possible, like area rugs, mobile pieces of furniture, etc
-- sweep away debris
-- mop with special solution / cleansers
-- steam or use special techniques for problem areas
-- allow to dry, accentuate with pretty things

These same steps for floorcare can be applied to skincare.  You'd never mop before you swept.  And sometimes you have to break out the steam mop to remove extra layers of grime and gunk.  This is just like your face, and why it's so important to consider a facial peel.

Skincare isn't just for middle aged women.  It doesn't have to be fussy or complicated, either.  80% of your skin damage is done by the time you're 18, so it's never too early to start using a little effort for a big result.  The skin is your body's largest organ, and should be treated appropriately.  Facial peels are one effective treatment I love, and are received at a medical spa or trusted dermatologist's office.  And now, you can even peel at home or on the go.

For those who don't know, Dr. Dennis Gross is a board-certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon, with his own specialized dermatology practice in New York City. He is an industry expert, focusing on skin cancer research and pioneering techniques for healthy, radiant skin, and promotes both the industry and his own skincare range with frequent rounds on the daytime television circuit, in numerous beauty and entertainment magazines.

Last week I was visiting my ever-awesome local Nordstrom and met Enrique from Dr. Dennis Gross. To be honest, I had never even heard of Dr. Gross or experienced his products.  Enrique kindly offered a complimentary facial and demonstration.  And I must say, the results are beyond appealing  I'm hooked.  Instantly my skin felt fresh and firm, with a soft, velvety touch.  I looked awake and alert, without the "surgical surprise" or redness you'd expect to see after intense treatments in an office.  And the next day, the results only got better.

Peels work with a two-pronged plan of action: first, thanks to alpha and beta hydroxy acids, exfoliation gently sweeps away dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin and nourishes with revitalizing vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals.  Retinol peels exfoliate by encouraging fresh cells to surface faster, working together to achieve a brighter, refreshed complexion.

What's most appealing about Dr. Gross?  Where do I begin?  Firstly, the peels are effective and gentle.  This is a big deal in the industry, and quite honestly, separates the professionals from the amateurs.  It's very rare to find clinical strength products that are safe, effective, and gentle on the skin.  You don't have to worry about looking like you fell asleep in a tanning bed for two weeks and are bright red.  And you're also not paying for watered down, ineffective creams and magic potions that pack everything but results.  Secondly, I love that the peels are delivered through travel friendly wipes.  There's no guessing how much solution you should apply, no wasting money by using too much product - you literally tear open the packet, follow the quick instructions, and continue with your daily beauty regimen.   As an added bonus, the entire range is Cruelty Free, many of which are also vegan friendly.

Just like your dermatologist focuses on your exact skincare concerns, so too does Dr. Gross's skincare collection.  There's literally something for every skin - from fine lines and wrinkles, to loss of firmness and brilliance, large pores, dry and rough texture, acne and oily skins, redness and sensitivity, and the non-negotiable sun protection.  The collection offers peels, cleansers, serums, moisturizers, treatments, masks, oils, and even sunless tanning products, haircare, and steamer solutions.

Of course, in a perfect world, skin care companies would always have it that you exclusively use their brand.  I don't work for any skincare companies, so I like to pick and choose what's best for me and recommend things I'm loving as well.  Whatever skincare you're currently using, I think everyone could benefit from using one of Dr. Gross's skin peels.  After all, you want to maximize the efficacy of your skincare products and have them absorb deep into your skin, not the dead cells that will just flake away.  Using it regularly will sweep away your skin's pore-clogging debris and ultimately prep the skin to receive your favorite lotions, potions, tonics, and creams.  Sounds appealing to me.

Dr. Gross' skincare is available at his office in New York and online, or through Nordstrom and Sephora.  Have questions?  Call Broderick at Nashville's Nordstrom Advanced Skin Care Counter on 615.850.6700.

I love skincare, and might be borderline addicted, if not at least obsessed.  I love trying new products, learning about new ingredients, and discovering what others love and have realized real results.  I've always liked how scientific and effective Murad skincare, and recently tried their new Murad Professional range Eye Lift.  And I must say, I'm definitely a fan.

 http://www.sephora.com/eye-lift-firming-treatment-P404007?skuId=1775378

In a trial by Dr. Murad, users reported:
• 86% noticed a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in one week
• 2x visibly firmer skin instantly
• 93% noticed skin was smoother instantly

Eye Lift Firming Treatment was developed by dermatologist Dr. Murad and focuses on anti-aging and makes for more youthful, radiant skin around the eyes.  This treatment infuses the delicate eye area with exclusive, proprietary surface-filling and firming technologies that instantly lift, firm and visibly reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Eye Lift Firming Treatment is the first product in the new Murad Professional collection. Now you can bring home the same professional-strength formulas used in Dr. Murad’s dermatology office for dramatically more youthful skin without post-surgical downtime.

With the ability to hold 1000 times its weight in water, Hyaluronic Acid provides the intense and lasting hydration required to effectively fight the age-related dryness that makes lines and wrinkles appear deeper. By encapsulating Hyaluronic Acid in microspheres, these sponge-like molecules can penetrate deep into the skin’s surface to provide immediate and lasting plumping that creates a smooth “filled” appearance-- as if lines and wrinkles have been lifted with an injectable filler.

Free of parabens, sulfates, and phtalates.  Each bottle comes with 40 eye pads for added efficacy.  Three pumps per eye area for ten minutes, once or twice weekly will make for lighter, lifted, more luminous eyes.

US$ 68 for 1 oz, available at Murad and Sephora.

Super shout out to Jessica at Nashville's Green Hills Sephora, for her friendly nature, passion, and professionalism.  Her excitement for this product pushed me to try it right in the store.  Well done, ma'am!

rethink the religious

I always imagined St. John Knits clients to be a very specific demographic.  Maybe it's because my favorite mentor and Vice President in college had an unending supply of the brand's trademark woven jackets, shells, skirts, and pants, but I always associate St. John Knits with powerful women, established in their professional and personal lives, and worldly.  After seeing their latest collection, I'm adding a few new adjectives to the mix: young, flirty, and seriously sexy.

What's most impressive?  The brand hasn't lost their core.  Still present are the jackets, day dresses, and everyday pieces you'd expect. But also in the mix are body hugging skirts, skin tight tuxedo pants with sheer lace up the legs, and everything else with a dash of flirt and flair.

Don't worry - the brand hasn't lost its base.  You'll still find the everyday black and navy suiting, double knotted fringe, and plethora of shells, cardigans, and jackets.  Only now you'll add sexy jumpsuits and sultry skirts.

Maybe now you won't think twice about raiding your Nana's closet.

Super shout out to Natalie & Co. at Nashville's Green Hills Nordstrom for the invitation.  You provide a world class shopping experience every day, for every customer, every time.  Keep up the great work.
